Julian Lavergne hat eine erste Beta-Ausgabe von Lubuntu 10.10 zur Verfügung gestellt. Die Linux-Distribution basiert auf Ubuntu 10.10 Beta 1 “Maverick Meerkat”, bringt aber den leichtgewichtigen LXDE-Desktop-Manager mit sich. In dieser Ausgabe gibt es ein Meldesystem für Updates und LXTask ersetzt den Xfce Task Manager. Xpad wurde hinzugefügt, Parcellite und pyNeighborhood mussten weichen. Für das Betrachten von PDF-Dateien setzen die Entwickler nun auf Evince. Lubuntu 10.10 Beta 1 ist fast komplett HAL-frei. Das Betriebssystem benötigt HAL immer noch für CD-burner. Wenn Sie diese Software entfernen, dann können Sie auch komplett auf HAL verzichten. Weitere Informationen finden Sie in der offiziellen Ankündigung. Lubuntu ist (noch) keine offiziell von Canonical unterstützte Auskopplung von Ubuntu. Die Entwickler möchten dies allerdings ändern. Lubuntu 10.10 Beta 1 ist 542 MByte groß (ISO / BitTorrent).
