Ab sofort gibt es eine erste Beta-Ausgabe (10.9.88) der benutzerfreundlichen Linux-Distribution SimplyMEPIS 11. Das Betriebssystem basiert auf Debian und bringt eine frühe Version von KDE 4.5 als Desktop-Umgebung mit sich. Allerdings hofft man, dass das Debian-KDE-Team bis zur finalen Ausgabe eine neuere KDE-Ausgabe zur Verfügung stellt. Als Herzstück verwendet die Distribution Kernel 2.6.36.

Da Firefox 4 Beta 8 ebenfalls verfügbar war, haben die Entwickler diese Version des Mozilla-Browsers ebenfalls implementiert. Das bedeutet, dass SimplyMEPIS 11.0 mit HTML 5 umgehen kann.
