Laut Aussage der Firma beträgt die maximale Datenübertragung fünf GBit/s. USB 2.0 schafft im Vergleich nur den theoretischen Wert von 480 KBit/s. Praktisch würde das heißen, dass durch die neue Technologie ein Lied von vier MByte in gerade einmal 0,02 Sekunden übertragen werden kann. Ein typischer HD-Film ließe sich in ungefähr 2,5 Minuten transferieren.
Die Story Station 3.0 soll in den Kapazitäten von einem bis zwei TByte ausgeliefert werden. USB 3.0 ist abwärtskompatibel. Um die neue Technologie in vollen Zügen ausnutzen zu können, brauchen Sie zwar ein anderes Kabel und einen neuen Host-Adapter, allerdings funktionieren die Geräte am langsameren USB-2.0-Port ebenso.
