Jon Dill hat die Verfügbarkeit einer Alpha-Ausgabe von Unity Linux 2011 angekündigt. Diese Linux-Variante ist ein minimalistisches System, das für die einfache Kreation von Eigenbauten gedacht ist. Die Entwickler liefern also den Kern und jeder kann damit machen, was er möchte und dies wieder Remastern. Mit Version 2011 wollen die Entwickler grundsätzliche Veränderungen unter der Haube vornehmen. Die Anwender sollen davon profitieren, dass sich auf Unity Linux basierte Eigenkreationen einfacher und unkomplizierter durchführen lassen.
2011 Alpha bringt Linux Kernel 2.6.35.8 und Perl 5.12.2 mit sich. Ebenso gibt es Updates bei mklivecd. Zu den wichtigsten Änderungen in Unity 2011 zählen die Entwickler, dass alle dynamischen DKMS-Kernel-Module ind statische Pakete umgewandelt werden.
