Ein Anwender hat einen etwas ungewöhnlichen Versuch gemacht, den sicherlich viele nicht für möglich halten. Von Windows 1.0, das im Jahre 1985 debütierte bis 7 per Upgrade. Der Versuch wurde in einer virtuellen Maschine von VMware durchgeführt. Zusätzlich zu den Betriebssystemen hat der Tester einige DOS-Spiele installiert, um zu zeigen, wie spätere Windows-Versionen damit umgehen. Als was darf man das Ganze nun einstufen? Sinnlos aber interessant? Der Macher selbst nennt sein Video Chain of Fools:
Dass man Microsoft Beifall zollen soll, für 25 Jahre Kompatibilität, wie es der Tester in seinem Video nennt, kann allerdings nur zynisch genannt sein. Langjährige Erfahrung und selbst mit DOS 5.0 + Windows 3.1 damals gestartet, gingen die meisten Upgrades einfach schief, beziehungsweise war das neue Betriebssystem nicht wirklich in einem stabilen Zustand. Die Regel hieß immer: Backup und Neuinstallation.
