Das Team um PC-BSD hat die sofortige Verfügbarkeit von Version 8.1 (Hubble Edition) angekündigt. Diese Version basiert auf FreeBSD 8.1-RELEASE und bringt somit KDE 4.4.5 als Fenster-Manager mit sich. Das Betriebssystem bringt einige Neuerungen und Veränderungen mit sich. Dazu gehören Verbesserungen im Installations-Backend und bessere Unterstützung für das Dateisystem ZFS. Ebenso haben die Entwickler laut eigener Aussage diverse Fehler ausgebessert.
Als minimale Systemanforderungen empfehlen die Entwickler einen Pentium 4, 512 MByte Arbeitsspeicher und 20 GByte freien Festplattenplatz.
