John Combs hat eine erste Beta-Ausgabe von GhostBSD 2.0 zur Verfügung gestellt. Bei diesem Betriebssystem handelt es sich um eine auf FreeBSD 8.2 basierende Live-CD, die GNOME 2.32 als Desktop-Umgebung mit sich bringt. Laut eigener Aussage habe sich nicht nur das Look&Feel verbessert, sondern auch die Geschwindigkeit. Es gibt ein neues Logo, das Dateisystem der Live-Umgebung hat sich geändert und GDM weist keine weißen Bildschirme während des Startens mehr auf.

Unter anderem befinden sich Rythmbox, Pidgin, Firefox 3.6.13 und Thunderbird 3.1.7 an Bord. Die Beta-Version ist derzeit nur für die Architektur x86_64 verfügbar.
