Chip-Hersteller NVIDIA hat eine ganze Reihe von Grafikprozessoren auf die Legacy-Liste genommen. Das heißt im Klartext, dass diese Grafikkarten nicht mehr vom mainline-Treiber unterstützt werden. Sie erhalten allerdigns weiterhin Unterstützung durch die so genannten Legacy-Treiber. Nun gibt es zunächst keinen Grund in Panik zu verfallen, weil auch die Legacy-Treiber Unterstützung für neue Kernel und neue Linux-Distributionen erhalten.
Die weiterhin unterstützten Legacy-Treiber sind die Serien 304.xx und 173.14.xx. Weitere Legacy-Produkte sind 96.43.xx und 71.86.xx, die allerdings keine weiteren Updates mehr spendiert bekommen. Karten die darunter gelistet sind, sollten auch so unter Linux problemlos laufen oder schon an Altersschwäche gestorben sein.
