Hui, das ist mal eine Pressemitteilung: Jordan Hubbard verlässt Apple und geht zu iXsystems. Hubbard war Director of UNIX Technology und CTO bei Apple. Dort konzentriert man sich zwar auf FreeNAS und will TrueNAS Unified Storage Appliance weiter vorantreiben, aber im Prinzip sind das hervorragende Nachrichten für FreeBSD und auch PC-BSD. Man möchte die NAS-Systeme ordentlich aufrüsten und Funktionen wie schnelle Echtzeit-Deduplizierung und einfachere Cloud-Integration implementieren.
Hubbard hat in den letzten zwölf Jahren direkt am Kern von Mac OS X und iOS gearbeitet. Also genau an den BSD- und UNIX-Technologien. Eine seine Aufgaben war die UNIX-Plattform zu modernisieren.
Hubbard war Mitgründer von FreeBSD im Jahre 1993. Ab 15. Juli 2013 wird John Hubbard der neue CTO bei iXsystems sein.
