Die letzte Gnash-Version, 0.8.8, debütierte im August 2010. Damals führten die Entwickler Unterstützung für Video-Beschleunigung (VA-API) ein. Ebenso wurde 100-prozentige YouTube-Kompatibilität angekündigt. Nun gibt es eine neue Version, die für die meisten Anwender jedoch weniger spannend sein dürfte. Version 0.8.9 bringt zahlreiche Bugfixes mit sich.
Ebenso wurden Fehler im NPAPI Plugin ausgebessert. Gnash 0.8.9 unterstützt außerdem SWF mit eingebettetem Screen Video von FFmpeg. Die ActionScript-Geschwindigkeit wurde ebenfalls verbessert.
